BRODIE TOWNSEND

Brodie Townsend is one of Australia’s most in demand, rising male actors.

At school, Townsend excelled in specialist maths and physics. A place at a well- respected high school, where academics were taken seriously, set him on a path to university, where he aspired to complete a physics degree.

After a being to enrol in an acting degree at Australia’s prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art. He got in shortly after auditioning, and embarked on a year-long course that ended with representation — a coup for a young actor with no short film, theatre or indie credits to his name at the time.
Townsend set about auditioning for various Australian projects, but following a few call backs, at the beginning of 2021, he landed a role on what would become the most successful Netflix original in Australian history: Heartbreak High.

Townsend auditioned for a few of the characters, but the casting directors were enamoured by his sense of humour, rewarding him with the role of Ant, the endearing class clown. Directly after premiering on Netflix, the series, which was a reboot of an iconic Australian 1990s TV show of the same name, went viral. It debuted at number six on the streaming platform’s coveted top 10 list the week it came out, with 18.25 million hours viewed in total. The following week, Heartbreak High climbed to number five on the top 10 list while amassing 14.88 million views. It launched its relatively unknown ensemble cast onto the world stage, and Townsend, with his wit and infectious energy, was no exception.

Off the back of his role in Heartbreak High, Townsend landed a lead role on Australian TV mini series Significant Others, which premiered on the ABC in October 2022.

Soon, acting roles weren’t all Townsend was being offered; the fashion industry also came calling seeing Brodie partner with some of the world’s biggest luxury brands — Dolce & Gabbana, YSL Beauty, L’Oreal and BOSS to name. Brodie has also appeared on covers for iconic titles such as RUSSH Magazine and GQ Hype. Townsend’s unique combination of fashion and acting talents has set him apart as a multi-faceted artist, with a distinct sense of style and ability to seamlessly blend modern and classic aesthetics.

In 2024, he returned to the screen, reprising his role of Ant in Heartbreak High: Season 2. Since its release on April 11, the second season of the hit show has been watched 2.3 million times globally, while spending three weeks in Netflix’s top 10.

Playing a teenage larrikin not only introduced Townsend to the ins and outs of show business — it taught him a lot about his strengths as an actor. “The hardest thing for me was trusting I could do it,” he says. “But when I realised you just have to do the thing, and be whatever you are in the moment. I think it’s the ability to really bring myself — that’s what I have as an actor.” With the world at his feet, Townsend is preparing to bring himself to the next big project. Whether it’s a Hollywood blockbuster or another humble Australian production that, in an unexpected twist, takes the world by storm.
